Many, many, many times I, like most of you, have read the Christmas story found in Luke 2. As I read it today, words near the end, words that seem to be plain and that do not draw us to the story as much as other details, leaped out at me. Maybe it is due to the recent attention to the Mayan calendar and prediction of the end of the world. I know that God can speak through the small, plain words just as clearly as the fancy ones.
The verse to which I am referring is Luke 2:20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Let me repeat a few: WHICH WERE JUST AS THEY HAD BEEN TOLD. We are told in God's word all things past and future that he has planned for us. When I hear of hype and panic such as the end of the world preparations and predictions, I want to shout to the world--God is in control and it will be just as we have been told. Just as the shepherds glorified and praised God for all that they had heard and seen, we should also lift up glorious praises for all that he has promised.
